Prabhu Solomon on his next project
Director-actor Cheran brought to the fore in a realistic manner the job-offering racket that thrived on the hard-earned money of poor youths who paid and hoped for ‘dream jobs’ in Gulf countries only to find out later that they had been duped by the job-brokers in Vetri Kodu Kattu. S.S. Stanley attempted a similar theme but not with as much success with the Dhanush-Aparna starrer Pudhukottaiyilirundhu Saravanan many years back.
Fresh with the success of his latest venture Kumki, it’s now Prabhu Solomon’s turn to take up the issue of Tamils who are ready to do just anything and everything in order to land up a job in any one of the Gulf countries. In most rural parts of of Tamil Nadu, serving a tenure in any position in any Gulf country still remains the ‘highest’ qualification of prospective bride-seekers.
Solomon plans to shoot widely and extensively in some Gulf countries including Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and UAE. Solomon’s Mynaa and Kumki have been hugely successful though set in entirely different backdrops. “Many youths in the Delta Districts of the State including Trichy, Thanjavur and Pudukkottai, who are denied their agricultural income due to paucity of water, sell off their lands and give huge sums to job-offering agents so as to land up any sort of jobs in Gulf countries.
“I have taken up this reality as the central theme of my upcoming film and shall soon be visiting these countries in person to find out first-hand as to what’s the actual state of affairs prevailing among such youths. Only after my return from Gulf would the script of the film take a final shape. I haven’t yet decided on any title and would be producing the film under my own banner.
“I am also considering casting Gautham Karthik as one of the two heroes in the film and met him recently in this regard. I’m sure he’s a talented guy but at this moment, I can’t say with certainty that he has been signed up for the film,” concludes Solomon.
