He has been in the industry for the past 50 years or so and has dedicated his life to the betterment of films right from his childhood. Referred to as ‘Ulaganayagan’ by his millions of fans, Kamal Haasan, the actor-par-excellence who has won every award which is there to be won, actually doesn’t have a house of his own and is presently staying in a rented accommodation in Chennai!
Kamal, who has delivered super-duper hit films in many languages, is said to have sold off his ‘own house’ some time back. The house, which was a sprawling bungalow containing a mini-theatre, was sold to settle some ‘old debts’ after which he moved to Neelankarai .
That does not end over here.
Before Vishwaroopam hits the screen, Kamal is in a ‘binding’ to give Rs.50 crore to the original producer PVP Films which he’s trying his best to manage. Despite his stature in the industry, Kamal can’t approach any Bank for loan as he had already incurred losses in his home production Unnaipol Oruvan. Whatever little property left in his name in Alwarpet is to be mortgaged for a fresh loan.
If he doesn’t settle the PVP issue, it might result in delay in release of Vishwaroopam which is the last thing Kamal would want. Those close to him, however, point out that it’s not the first time that Kamal finds himself in a financial mess. “In the past too, he had overcome many such financial difficulties and delivered successful films. He is capable enough of coming out of this crisis too,” they assure the star’s fans.
We too hope so!
