Kozhi Koovuthu Storyline

It is a love story set in a rural backdrop. The protagonist Kumaresan (Ashok) hails from a poor family  earning his  livelihood, selling chicken. He meets  Tulasi (Shija Rose), daughter of an influential man Duraisingam (Naren) and falls in love with her.
Tulasi’s uncle Ayyanar (Bose Venkat), opposes her love affair with Kumaresan and at one point decides to get Kumaresan killed.
Also arranges Tulasi’s marriage with a relative of theirs. As the preparations for the wedding are on, a tragedy rocks the family. Do the lovers manage to unite in wedlock or not, forms the rest of the story.

Kozhi Koovuthu Script analysis

There isn’t anything very novel about the story. It is a routine love tale set in a village and there is the usual rich girl falling for poor boy and the opposition that follows.
The cliched story-line and predictable scenes mar the flow to a great extent and pulls down ‘Kozhi Koovudhu’ big time.

Kozhi Koovuthu Cast and crew Analysis

Ashok of Muruga and Pidichirukku fame was hoping to give a fillip to his career, which seems to have stalled for one reason or the other. And, he has done justice to his role in what happens to be an oft-repeated theme in Kollywood.
The heroine Shija Rose too acquits herself rather well. Rohini shines through the role of the hero’s mother along with Bose Venkat, who dons a negative character. The impact of Mayilsamy and Singamuthu in lighter roles is minimal.

Kozhi Koovuthu Positives

Kozhi Koovuthu Negatives

Kozhi Koovuthu doesn’t give any reason to relish:Damp squib

Stalin and wife Krithika
Udhayanidhi Stalin and wife Krithika
Apart from the recently announced Nayanthara starrer for which Udhayanidhi Stalin will turn actor second time, his home banner Red Giant Movies has added another production to their kitty. This time around it will be his wife who turns producer. Looks like Stalins passion for movies has rubbed off well with wife Krithika Udhayanidhi who is excited for her next venture under the family banner.
Previously, she has directed a short movie titled Life and also won the best director at an international film festival in Jaipur. In addition to that she has also worked as an assistant director to Rajesh M in Oru Kal Oru Kannadi which had her husband playing the pivotal role. She says “I have been making short movies and have worked over the years as an assistant to many directors, who have worked with Red Giant. I was waiting for the right time to debut as a commercial filmmaker.”
Her yet to be titled movie is touted to be a romantic comedy and will feature Mirchi Shiva and Priya Anand in the leading pair. Anirudh Ravichander who is celebrating his recent success of Ethir Neechal will compose the tunes for this one.
Udhayanidhi recently wrote on his micro blogging site “Red Giants next production starts soon wit Mirchi Shiva nd Priya Anand playing lead roles. Music by @anirudhravichan nd dir is @astrokiru”

Decision on DTH irrevocable, asserts Kamal Haasan

Kamal at vishwaroopam Airtel DTH Launch
Notwithstanding the ‘boycott’ threat meted out by the theatre-owners across the State who have said that they would ensure that no theatre would be available to Kamal Haasan to release his Vishwaroopam on 11th January if he doesn’t change his decision to air the film on television on 10th January via DTH, Kamal has said that the DTH release would surely be persisted with at any cost.
“I’m not bothered about the threat; as planned earlier, Vishwaroopam would be released on television via DTH at 09:30 p.m. on 10th January. It’s for sure,” Kamal has asserted. Produced at a whopping cost of Rs.95 crores, Kamal’s Viswaroopam is hitting the screens worldwide on 11th January whereas Kamal had announced that the film’s release would be preceded by its release on the telly via DTH.
Distributors and theatre-owners across the State had gone up in protest against Kamal’s decision as they feared that the DTH release would only result in theatres running empty shows. In a rare show of unity, all the theatre-owners in the State are unified in their decision not to let a single theatre for Kamal to release Viswaroopam on 11th January.
An official announcement vis-à-vis the DTH release was made by Kamal Haasan yesterday at the ‘meet-the-press’ event organized by the crew of Vishwaroopam at a star hotel in the city. Speaking to the pressmen at the event, Kamal said, “I don’t bother about the opposition to my decision to release the film via DTH. As many as 5 DTH service providers would be releasing the film all over the country on television, as planned earlier, at 09:30 p.m. on 10th January. It’s an irrevocable decision and I’m sure those who oppose it now would realize its fruitfulness at a later stage.
“Subscribers of AirTel, Videocon and Reliance DTH can watch the film on the said time and date after making a one-time payment of Rs.1000. The film would be available for viewing on Channel No.155,” concluded Kamal.

Rubini’s daughter ready to make debut

Rubini in Manithan
Rubini in Manithan
Remember Rubini, the  actress who starred in many Tamil films in the late eighties ? Known mostly for her oomph factor. Rubini debuted as heroine in Tamil opposite superstar Rajinikanth in the 1987,  super-duper hit film Manidhan.
She went on to star opposite many leading heroes of her times including Kamal Haasan (Apoorva Sagodharargal) and Sathyaraj (Puthiya Vaanam). Born as Komal Mahuvakar, she changed her name to Rubini only for films. After remaining on top for a few years, she slid out of reckoning in the mid-nineties due to the onslaught of new heroines. She then moved to Mumbai, got married and settled in matrimony.
It now turns out that Rubini wants her teenaged daughter to pursue a career in Tamil films. Rubini’s daughter, whose name hasn’t yet been revealed, is said to be looking very pretty than Rubini did when she was young. As such, Rubini is said to be very keen in ensuring that her daughter gets to make her debut as heroine in Tamil films like she started off her career.
Talks are on with some producers and directors. It is further reported that till something is finalized in this regard, nothing will be revealed. Yesteryear’s heroine Radha has already launched both daughters, Karthika and Thulasi, in films. Leading heroes such as Arjun and Sarath Kumar have also brought their daughters to Kollywood. Rubini’s daughter only becomes the latest star-daughter to enter Kollywood.

Top Heroines of Tamil Cinema 2012

Top Kollywood Heroine 2012
Top Kollywood Heroine 2012
Not all of the kollywood’s front-line heroines had any release to name in 2012. Despite them not featuring in a single film, neither their popularity among their fans nor the craving among producers and directors to sign them up in new films appears to have receded. Tamanna, Nayanthara, Trisha are still preferred by film-makers of big budgets. In a trade where most heroines life span is hardly 1 film, if these heroines are able to maintain their market value with out any delivery, it is purely hard and smart work they had done prior.
Tamanna hasn’t starred in a Tamil film for close to one-and-a-half years now, after last year’s Venghai opposite Dhanush. However, she has had some super hits in Telugu in the intervening period. She is now cast as Ajith’s heroine (for Rs.1.5 crores!) in an upcoming Tamil film to be directed by Siruthai Siva. in 2012 Tamanna had a restrictions put on her to not sign up any new films until she completes her already work in progress projects, now she is done with those, now it remains to be seen as to how many films she does in Tamil in 2013.
Despite being often called  as the ‘No.1’ in Tamil films, Nayanthara’s last film in Tamil, Boss Engira Baskaran released more than two years back. The craze for the controversy queen is not down a bit, she had declared retirement due to personal reasons and is now back roaring. She would be seen in at least 3 films in 2013 opposite the likes of Ajith, Aarya and Udhayanidhi.
Kajal Agarwal was the only one actress who used the absence of biggies at the right slot.  Her Maattrraan opposite Surya did not work out as expected, but post Thuppakki release the actress has proven she is worth the package. In 2013 Kajal has  just one release in tamil in the form of All in All Azhagu raja opposite Karthi. But she is the most in demand in tollywood.
Trisha, who will be 30 next year, seems to be getting sexier than ever before, She has also completed a decade-long stay as lead heroine in films. In 2012 she had couple of releases in Telugu  and her Samar opposite Vishal was to release last week but had to be postponed for various reasons. It is now certain that she would also have 3 of her films releasing next year including Endrendrum Punnagai opposite Jiiva and Boologam opposite ‘Jayam’ Ravi.
Anushka did not not have a great year with both her films  Saguni and Thandavam flopping at the box office, but she is still the favourite when it comes to Suriya brothers, In 2013 Anushka would be seen in action in Alex Pandian opposite karthi, Singam 2 opposite elder brother  Suriya and if  all the production issues are resolved, Irandam Ulagam would see its release.
Amala Paul  and Samantha are not too far off, if they can hold on for few more decent films under their belt, its sure they would be replacing some one from the above pack in 2013.

Madhavan is the PETA person of the year

Maddy and Simba
Maddy and Simba
Recently the People For the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) named Madhavan as the person of the year for propagating vegetarianism in Indian society. The actor has been appreciated for taking initiative opposing the injustice done to the creatures and supporting the organization. He says “I am honored to receive the recognition from PETA. I feel it is really sad how these animals are slaughtered without hesitation time and again. A lot of us need to understand that they just have feelings like us.In fact, at times the animals are left to bleed to a pity death at these slaughterhouses.”
Apparently the actor has narrated for a movie produced under PETA’s banner. It is inspired by the legendary musician Paul McCartney who once said “If slaughterhouses had glass walls, everyone would be vegetarian”.  Titled “Glass Walls” the eight minute documentary highlights the cruelty animals face before they are finally traded off to consumers of meat in local markets for a handsome exchange of money.
Moreover, it brings out the unrevealed brutally that buyers of meat choose to ignore repeatedly. In addition to it Madhavan has recently written to the CEO of Yum! Brands advising them on better alternatives for their KFC outlets present all over the world. We bring you the documentary which was shot by cinematographer Parashar Baruah and narrated by Madhavan.

Power Star Srinivasan for Pasanga 2

Powerstar Srinivasan
Pandiraj’s National award winning movie Pasanga will soon be followed up with a sequel titled Pasanga 2 at a theatre near you. Notably, the movie won the National award for Best feature film in Tamil, National award for Best Child artist shared by Kishore & Sree Raam and even the National award for Best Dialogues by Pandiraj.
Vazhakku En 18/9 cinematographer Vijay Milton will turn director with Pasanga 2. He is placing his bet on none other than Power Star Srinivasan for an amazing promotional song for his movie.  In addition, the director has also roped in internet sensation Sam Anderson on board. Both Sam and Power Star will be performing a kuthu number in Pasanga 2 which will be a deviation from the routine.
Usually masala videos like these make way for some skin show from the hottest girls in the game. However, the Milton has planned to go otherwise.  In fact, he has decided to keep the barely clad girls away from his song and is confident that the two comedians are more than enough to please the crowds.
Meanwhile Power Star awaits the release of Kanna Laddu Thinna Aasaiya which is the debut production venture by ruling Kollywood comedian Santhanam. Last seen in Anantha Thollai he will return to screen after a short gap of two years with the movie.

Mani Ratnam consoles Gautham Menon

Gautham-Menon-with-Maniratnam

Gautham Menon recently pruned Neethane En Ponvasantham by ten minutes following a worrying response regarding the slow pace of his movie. In spite of being the most awaited release of the year it received a cold response in comparison to the Vikram Prabhu starrer Kumki which is doing good business at the box office. In fact, sensing that Kumki is a family entertainer the promoters have now released a new poster which claims that NEP too is also a family movie.  However it was a double blow for Gautham as his home banner Photon Kathaas has produced the movie and he directed it.
The director recently sought help from Mani Ratnam post a mixed bag of reviews he received from fans and critics alike. It is a known fact that Gautham is a big fan of Mani Ratnam and has previously mentioned that Mouna Raagam and Alaipayuthe are his all time favorite romantic tales. A close source mentioned that Gautham sent a message to the veteran director expressing that NEP was his best effort.
In response Mani Ratnam said that he should not worry of what has bygone but  instead look forward to his next project. Furthermore Mani consoled him and disclosed that he saw there was a sincere effort on Gauthams part right from the movies pre release promotions to its theatrical release.

How Vikram shed weight?

Vikram is sporting an ultra-slim look for his forthcoming film 'I' directed by Shankar. And the actor has made this possible just weeks after the release of 'Thaandavam', in which he was seen in a muscular look.

"Shankar wanted Vikram to go lean for some portions in I. The Chiyaan took it as a challenge and spent most of his time in a gym," sources say.

They add: "He was also under a strict diet regime for some weeks. His dedication and hard work made him to gain the desired look within a month."

With A R Rahman composing the music, 'I' is being made in three languages- Tamil, Telugu and Hindi. Amy Jackson is the leading lady.

Fans of Trisha and Vishal will have to wait a bit more to see the hot pair onscreen in Samar.  Reportedly the release dates have been shifted once again. The news is certainly disappointing for fans that have been looking forward to the movie since long. The repeated postpnement is only adding to the disheartened Trishas fans in particular.
Trisha plays a Tamilian girl from Bangkok in the movie. Following a delayed response from the censor committee her movie had cleared the censor board recently. It received a U certificate and confirmed release was expected on December 28. To much dsimay it won;t happen this time too.
Meanwhile, Director Thiru looked relieved as he wrote on his micro blogging site “Samar will not be releasing on 28th December, pushed the release for better date :). An ardent Trisha fan remarked with much disappointment “First they promised December 21, and then 28 and now they are postponing the movie once again.”
However, the production unit say that the movie will reach theatres on Pongal next year.
Fans are keeping their fingers crossed and hope Samar won’t back off from the Pongal race now, as Vishal’s  other film  Madha Gadha Raja directed by Sundar C also has been stated for Pongal release, and further more  the movie is bound to face stiff competition on the day with some big budget movies lined up for release.

Shaam
Shaam
Actor Shaam is excited about his upcoming venture 6 Candles. The movie he says is the most emotional experience ever for him. Reportedly the actor will be seen three parallel roles for the movie. It will be his seventeenth movie in Kollywood.Nevertheless, he looks promising in the first look posters of the movie and may really deliver a hit finally. The actor is content that good roles are coming his way.
He says “Director V.Z. Dhorai has scripted a very meaty role for me in the movie and I grabbed it with open arms. I was waiting for a role like this since long. I play Ram who is a software engineer. But in the story the characters life is spun around three stages of his life. I play a young lad then as a mature man and finally as an old man who is in the last stages of his life. It is a very simple story set across six cities and is inspired from real life incidents. I am sure the script and screenplay will surprise everyone. ”
For the latter the actor has undergone some drastic physical changes. Apparently he has worked out with medical professionals a risky procedure that aimed to bring out a swelling bag of skin under his eyes. He says “it was essential for the character of the old man.”Moroever he confirmed that he is in talks for a Tamil and Kannada remake of the movie with certain producers. Apart from Shaam the movie also has Poonam Kaur and actor Anil Murali as an antagonist. The compositions will be by Srikanth Deva.

‘Power star’ and Santhanam form mutual admiration club?

Power star and Santhanam
Power star and Santhanam
It has been announced that comedian Santhanam’s home production titled Kanna Laddu Thinna Aasaiya (KLTA), which was scheduled to release last week, would now be releasing in the third/fourth week of January. While the reason for the postponement is a different issue, the ‘mutual admiration club’ formed by Santhanam and ‘power star’ Srinivasan is the latest surprise in Kollywood.
Santhanam has gone on record saying that shooting with ‘power star’ for KLTA had been a ‘rollicking experience’. “Even if I make fun of him, he doesn’t mind and is a joy to work with,” were Santhanam’s words about power star. The film has Bollywood starlet Vishakha Singh as the heroine and has been directed by Manikandan.
Power star is also playing a rather prominent (comedy) role in director Shankar’s upcoming film I. Shankar has offered a comic role to Srinivasan and is said to be amused by the ‘slow’ understanding shown by Srinivasan on the sets. Sources at the unit of I say that Shankar is unable to control his laughter at times as it takes many funny moments for him to make Srinivasan understand what he has to do in certain sequences and then extract performance from the latter.
Whether or not Srinivasan’s comedy would appeal to the audiences would be known only after the release of I where Srinivasan plays the president of ‘Santhanam Fans’ Club’. It is also not known whether Srinivasan requested and landed up this role or it fell into his lap on its own.
Whatever be the case, it’s a fact that Santhanam and Srinivasan have been praising each other for a variety of reasons.

Prabhu Solomon rules out change in climax of successful Kumki

Prabhu Solomon
For the second successive time, Prabhu Solomon has scored as a director. Following his Mynaa in 2010, Solomon has delivered another super-duper hit with Kumki which released a couple of weeks back.
Though the film has been doing well in theatres, it is said that the audiences are not so ‘pleased’ with the climax which is very different from what is usually shown in Tamil films.
The hero doesn’t get his heroine in the climax and the film ends up with a question mark, leaving ample space for a sequel to be made in future. It is reported that Solomon has been getting many requests from his fans, movie-goers and others to change and ‘re-shoot’ the climax in such a manner which would give the film a ‘happy ending’ and would also help the audiences leave theatres with a happy frame of mind.
Amid unconfirmed reports that Solomon has almost decided to change the climax, we got in touch with Solomon. “I never entertained any idea to change the climatic sequence of Kumki. In fact, I had been getting congratulatory messages and appreciative phone-calls from far-away places from fans who love the film’s climax. Many have confessed to me that they were moved to tears by the climax.
“Climax of a film, in particular, is conceived by a director only after lengthy discussions and consultation with his assistants and with his own conscience. Each and every sequence is in fact, set up only after thoughtful sessions. In such a backdrop, deciding to change the climax would only mean that I’m attempting to test my own self-confidence and wisdom.
“At any cost, I’m not ready to lose my self-confidence in me as a film-maker,” concludes Solomon as he rules out any changes in the film’s climax.

Kamal Haasan refused to star in Moondram Pirai Sequel

Kamal says no to moodram pirai

‘Ulaganayagan’ Kamal Haasan is not for remaking old classics; especially if the remake movie is his own film made in the seventies and eighties. “At the outset, I would love to clarify that I don’t want to remake my old hit films for the simple reason that I may not be suitable at present to re-enact those roles,” says Kamal Haasan.
Remaking old classics and super-duper hit films has been becoming a trend in the past few years. While it can be appreciated as an effort to bring to the present generation’s notice the ‘feel’ of classic films of the bygone era, there has been accusation from certain quarters alleging that remaking old films only means lack of ‘imagination and creativity’ on the part of script-writers and film-makers.
Many classic films by Kamal Haasan, made in Tamil and Hindi in the seventies and eighties, are ready to go under the ‘remake’ scanner provided the consent for the same is given by the respective producers. However, commenting on the remake trend, Kamal has said that “I have also heard talks of remaking classics such as Sadma (Hindi version of Moondram Pirai) and Ek Duuje Ke Liye.
“In the first place, I won’t be suitable anymore to re-enact those roles. Secondly, I’m not for changing the script of those films while re-making them. I was approached to star in the sequel to Sadma wherein the script was penned in such a manner that the heroine regains her ‘consciousness’ and comes in search of the hero. I don’t think I’d fit that role. Moreover, the tragic end was the ‘crux’ of the original film and changing it might not work at all,” he concluded.

Jiiva’s salary drops; Thanks to Neethaane En Ponvasantham

Jiiva’s salary drops
Jiiva’s salary drops
Jiiva is  highly upset that his latest release Neethaane En Ponvasantham  is not  been doing as well as expected. The film is in its second week in theatres and critics and movie-goers have reacted very differently to the film. Neethaane En Ponvasantham directed by Gautham Vasudev Menon has music by Maestro Ilaiyaraaja.
Reports say that Jiiva, who had a super duper hit film last year  Ko, wanted to hike his fee to Rs.3 crore per film. After Ko, his next couple of films Rowthiram and Vandhaan Vendraan did below-par business at the box-office which didn’t help his desire to be fulfilled. Nanban, which released in January this year, was also an average grosser and was also a multi-starrer.
It was then that he was signed up by popular cinematographer Ravi K. Chandran to star in his directorial venture Yaan opposite Thulasi, younger daughter of actress Radha  who is making her debut with Maniratnam’s Kadal. When Jiiva quoted his fee to star in the film, Ravi was shocked and told him that his budget might not allow him to pay him such a huge package.
Later Ravi had reportedly told Jiiva that if Neethaane En Ponvasantham did well in theatres, he would consider meeting Jiiva’s demand.  Jiiva, who was absolutely sure that Neethaane En Ponvasantham would become a super-duper hit, had agreed to Ravi that he would allot dates for shoot of Yaan only after the release of Neethaane En Ponvasantham. As it turned out, Neethaane En Ponvasantham’s collections in theatres are far from encouraging, though the film has been appreciated for the performance of Samantha.
Finding no other ways, Jiiva is said to have agreed to ‘reduce’ his earlier demand by at least Re.1 crore. In all probability, the film might go to the floors soon.

Kamals statement on the Delhi rape case upsets protestors

Delhi recently witnessed a gang rape of a paramedical student this December 16. Certainly the unfortunate event has sent alarm bells ticking for the government that is rethinking on its ineffective security policies in the capital of the country. Public rage has aggravated into the capital being flooded by thousands in protest against the inhumanely act of gang rape against a young twenty three year old girl.
Following it the incident has sent ripples of fear across the nation. Recently, Chennai too witnessed voicing its support with an anti rape rally at Marina Beach for the victims of Delhi and Srivaigundam rape cases. However Kamal Haasan has something to say on the issue.
The actor has finally broken his silence on the incident at a recent press release. He says  “The girl is my sister and the criminal my brother! Nevertheless I am ashamed. Like anyone else I support teeth to teeth response for the guilty. However killing the criminal with a prompt decision of death penalty will not bring a satisfying solution.”
However Kamal’s announcement of the rapist as his brother has not gone well with the protestors. Some of them retorted in unison “How can Kamal call him his brother, will he say that if the victim was a member of his family?”
Has  Kamal has gone a little overboard with this, prior to the release of Vishwaroopam?

Arya’s back off shocks Prithviraj

Arya
Arya
Arya has been part of some major roles in Kollywood lately. However, he has been a little choosy about his movies . His latest decision has shown that the actors demand in the industry is growing day by day. Arya had earlier given a positive nod to a Mollywood flick titled Mumbai Police a year ago. In the movie the hunky actor was cast in a supporting role alongside Prithviraj.
However Arya shocked the crew of Mumbai Police recently with his last moment decision preceding the commencement of its shooting schedule in January. The actor made it clear that doing miniscule roles would only harm his film career and he doesn’t wish to be part of the cast anymore. The blunt remarks have certainly hurt Prithviraj and the crew members who wanted to start off the year on a good note. Now they will have to continue with him.
As for Arya’s fans his decision is correct. In Kollywood the actor will appear in meaty roles in Settai with Anjali, Irandam Ulagam alongside Anushka Shetty, and also a Vishnuvardhan movie alongside Thala Ajith.
The actor remarked in a press report recently “Prithviraj is a good friend; but we are professionals about our work. I am really looking forward to bigger roles and wish to keep my choice of movies limited. I think it is important as my current roles decide the weight of offers that will come my way in the future. ”

Dhanush and Parvathy Menon will soon be seen on the silver screen for Bharat Bala’s Mariyaan. The flick is certainly a golden chance for the Mollywood beauty to ensure a long stay in Kollywood and follow up her successful debut at the box office that started with the movie Poo in 2008.
The pretty girl could not have asked for anything better. Apart from the fact that she has a chance to showcase her talents alongside a national award winning actor she also has Bharat Bala and A R Rahman on board. Parvathi is thrilled about her experience and disclosed “Working with Dhanush was wonderful he is very committed to his craft and has a very professional conduct even with his co stars.”
That is not all, Parvathy also has a pivotal role in Chennaiyil Oru Naal alongside R Sarathkumar and Prakash Raj. When we asked the gorgeous girl on why she never signed a project post her 2008 appearance she says “Well I was waiting for the right moment all these years. I am sure Bharat Bala Sir will amaze the audience with his scintillating visualizations in the movie. What can I say about cinematographer Marc Koninckx and Rahman Sir’s contribution, wonderful to say the least. I am blessed to be offered such a movie.” quips the girl.
Mariyaan is produced under the banner Aascar Films and the release dates are yet to be announced. Stay tuned to know more on the same.

The amazing response from the movie-goers to Kumki has delighted actor Vikram Prabhu and the crew and technicians who had worked in the film. Thuppakki Anti Muslim Fight
Thuppakki Anti Muslim Fight

The Chennai High Court has served a notice on the Govt. of Tamil Nadu to explain to it in detail as to which sequences are‘deleted’ from the final version of the film Thuppakki, released last month. Many Muslim organizations had protested to the presence of ‘certain sequences’ in the film and staged demonstrations outside actors Vijay’s residence when the film released.
They were demanding deletion of the sequences which, in their opinion, had depicted Muslim youths as ‘terrorists’. A case was filed with the Court seeking ban on release of the film. The producer and the director along with SA Chandrasekar had pleed for pardon and promised  all of the controversial sequences would be deleted from the film immediately.
Now the  film  has done very decent run at the box-office, but the problems for the producer does not seem to end.
Ibrahim of Indian Muslim League has filed another petition with the Court saying that “The controversial sequences in the film hadn’t been deleted and the film is running in theatres with all these sequences objected to by us. The film is hurting the sentiments of Muslim youths and we seek suspension of the ‘U’ certificate awarded to the film by the Government.”
When the case came for hearing before the bench consisting of Justice Banumathy and Justice Sasidharan took up. The Govt. Counsel informed the Court that the Government permitted screening of the film only after the deletion of some sequences. The Court then directed the Government to file a detailed reply by 3rd January citing the sequences deleted in the film’s final version.

The 10th edition of the Chennai Internal Film Festival concluded with Bollywood’s Amitabh Bachchan, voted as ‘superstar of the millennium’ on-line by his legion of fans, taking part in the concluding day celebrations. To Kollywood’s honour, the Tamil film Vazhakku Enn 18/9 directed by Balaji Sakthivel was adjudged as the ‘best film’ and was closely followed by Pizza, Sattai and Mouna guru which received ‘special awards’ from the jury.
Amitabh Bachchan donated Rs.11 lakhs to the organizers of the Film Festival which took place in Chennai from 12-20 December. The concluding ceremony was held at the Woodlands Complex in Chennai on the night of Thursday (20th December). Amitabh started by saying ‘Vanakkam’ in Tamil and then switched to speak in flawless English. He touched on a range of topics, including the recent deadly gang-rape in New Delhi.
“The recent atrocities against women occurring in our country are heart-breaking. When we come to theatres to watch films, we don’t know as to who would be sitting next to us: what caste or religion as to the she or he next to us belongs to. We all enjoy the film for more than two hours; we weep with the film, laugh with it and enjoy all the finer moments in it. Films are, without doubt, a great unifying factor in our country.
“I’m happy to be part of such a film industry in our country which produces the maximum number of films in the world. In particular, the South Indian film industry’s contribution to this number is amazing. Many extremely talented technicians are here, working with great unity. The punctuality and discipline prevailing in South Indian films is hardly found in Bollywood, the Mumbai film industry.
“I have plenty of friends from the Tamil film industry and feel proud to have worked with many great technicians here. Still, I know that we (Bollywood) have to learn a lot from you (Kollywood). I expect Suhasini Madam to invite me to the Chennai Film Festival every year. I’m ready to do even minor chores as my contribution: I’m ready to lift the chairs, etc.” concluded Amitabh and donated Rs.11 lakhs to the organizers.

Vijay TV’s Neengalum Vellalam Oru Kodi-Suriya

It’s official now: actor Suriya has opted out of the popular game show he had been hosting for Vijay TV. Titled Neengalum Vellalam Oru Kodi , the show was on air for a few months and was suddenly wrapped up a couple of months ago, prior to the release of Suriya’s latest film Maatraan, which had him playing conjoined twins. Neither Suriya’s acting nor could the bubbly Kajal Aggarwal’s presence save the film from courting disaster at the box-office.
Prakashraj, the actor-par-excellence has stepped in as  Suriya’s replacement to host the show. The talk in the industry is that there can’t be a better replacement. The reason given by Suriya for opting out from hosting NVOK was that he had call-sheet problems. However, some ‘research’ into the reasons revealed something else.

Neengalum Vellalam Oru Kodi was watched by record audiences this year but also faced criticism for the relatively easy questions it had on offer for the contestants. When the show was wrapped up, it was said that its second ‘season’ would commence soon and now it dawns that it would be Prakashraj and not Suriya who would be hosting the show.
It is said that successive mediocre’s at the box-office has forced Suriya to rethink about hosting the show. Though Suriya cites lack of ‘dates’ to shoot the show, the reason for his opting out of the show is that he was wary of getting ‘far too familiar’ to the viewers and to his fans. After his last two films, Suriya is said to have been ‘advised’ by his close relatives and friends to stay off from the public eye for some time so that there would be a craving among fans to watch him on big-screen!

Ameer appeals for live execution of Delhi gang-rape accused

Ameer Sultan
Ameer Sultan
Actor-producer-director Ameer, who is also the secretary of the Tamil Film diretcor’s association (TANTIS), has appealed to chief minister J. Jayalalithaa to try her best in impressing upon the Union government to beam ‘live’ the execution of the rape accused in the (in)famous gang-rape incident in New Delhi on Sunday (16th December) which has shocked the conscience of the entire nation.
In a request letter addressed to the chief minister of the state , Ameer has said “None of us can deny that the brutal gang-rape of a medical student in Delhi on 16th December has frozen our hearts and eroded our confidence in ourselves. All the six accused in the case should be tried on fast-track courts and the verdict in the form of death sentence should be delivered as soon as possible.
“The hanging of the accused should be held in a public place and arrangements should be made to relay this as a ‘live broadcast’ on all the channels (owned by the Government as well as on private channels) in the country so that it serves a stern warning to all those who might even remotely think of indulging in such heinous crimes in future.
“It’s a sorry statement of affairs that New Delhi, the capital of the country, heads the list in committing such inhuman crimes. Such incidents not only bring bad name to the country but also make us hang our heads in shame. I appeal to Amma to do her best in implementing my above request,” the letter concluded.
